So lately I've been into kayaking a lot. My aunt had knee surgery a can't use her kayak so we've borrowed it and I've been using it every chance I get. Yesterday I went out with a friend on a river that my little sister and I had gone down the day before only Justin and I started much farther up the river.
We got to the rough part of the river that Mary and I had done. It was mostly rapids and rocks but it wasn't too deep (actually pretty shallow) or hard and we hadn't had any problems.
Um.... Justin and I did. We got to a part of the river that was in a big 'S' At the first part of the 'S' there were two men fishing. So we were careful not to hit them since they were both in the river.
Big mistake. We hit a rock and got turned sideways and the boat filled up with water so it was really unstable. Then we got stuck between two rocks and the kayak was almost all the way sunk. The current was really fast and we were in the very middle of the river.
So immediately I said "Get the stuff out of the boat" We had my dad's cellphone (because I don't have one and Justin's doesn't work) and our shoes and a few other things. So we put them on the big rock and I figured that we would be able to hoist the boat out of the water from there. But we couldn't even get on the rock XD it was too tall and the water was too fast.
And then the boat got unstuck.... and I said "OH (a bunch of creative words) IT'S GOIN' DONE RIVER! GET IT!!!!"
So we both grabbed on to it and tried to stop it. I'm gonna say that at this point the boat weighed maybe 400lbs. The water was probably 4 to 5 feet deep... yeah we weren't gonna stop it and we were miles from anywhere with only a rail trail to go by.
So we held onto the boat trying to get it stuck on more rocks. And then it hit a rock and it swung around so that I was in front of it and under it. And it then proceed to try and beak my legs and back.
One of the fisherman just watched and didn't do anything. The other chased us down stream.
But somehow we managed to get it back on shore... only the shore opposite the trail.
The nice fisherman had called 911 I think because I was screaming like a crazy person.... lol But I was only really badly bruised and slightly hysterical.
But we needed out cell phone so I walked way back upstream and I swam across the river and got our paddles and cell and other crap and then I sorta floated back (I don't remember where Justin was... I think back with the boat because he was paranoid about it going back in the river )
And that's when the really freakishly delayed panic attack caught up with me so I just sat on the bank with Justin and sobbed for a good hour. Justin tried to sing to me..... I think that made it worse XD
And then the Fire Department came and sent some guys on ropes across the river to help us. They got the water out of the boat and helped us get back across and then drove us to the fire station and we called my dad (who was not happy.)
Today I am covered in bruises and I think I have a few broken toes but I'm okay. Justin is perfectly fine. lol
I think I'm gonna stick to lakes for a little while....
